Although breastfeeding affords a multitude of benefits to both mother and infant, only recently have employers realized that supporting a mother’s decision to breastfeed can greatly benefit their businesses. Findings from the 2013 WIC Vendor Management Study
In 2012, 40 state WIC programs, including the District of Columbia, participated in the Food and Nutrition Service-funded 2013 WIC Vendor Management Study, conducted by Altarum Institute, to examine violations of program rules by participating vendors. Read more.
Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior’s 2014 WIC Supplement
A supplemental issue of the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior was published in May 2014 focusing on the WIC. The WIC supplement highlights studies and research that address the impacts of the new WIC food package, WIC nutrition education, and WIC nutritional intake.
CFAN’s Loren Bell Moderates SNAP-Ed Policy Forum
On May 13, 2014, Altarum Institute Fellow Loren Bell moderated a SNAP-Ed policy forum at the Washington Press Club. The forum, cosponsored by RTI International and Altarum, highlighted the findings and successes of recent SNAP-Ed program evaluations and facilitated a discussion on the role SNAP-Ed plays in promoting healthy eating on a limited budget.
CFAN participated in the National WIC Association’s 2014 Annual Education and Networking Conference, May 18–21, in Pittsburgh. Loren Bell and Linnea Sallack presented on WIC research during a plenary session attended by 500 conference participants.

The Public Health Foundation Enterprises WIC program has been providing WIC services in the greater Los Angeles area for more than 30 years. Its 61 WIC centers provide WIC services to over 325,000 individuals per month. It is the largest local WIC agency in the country, serving 4% of the nation’s total and 23% of California’s total WIC participants.
