Strong and stable communities are essential to the well-being of children, adolescents, and their families. With proven policy analysis, technical assistance, program evaluation, and training credentials, Altarum Institute works to ensure that federal, state, and local policymakers and providers collaborate and strengthen quality systems of care that improve health outcomes for these populations.
Altarum addresses the full range of factors that have an impact on the well-being of families and the context in which families live and services are delivered. We believe that well-designed and effectively implemented research, policy analysis, and training and technical assistance focused on child and adolescent populations—including, infants, young children, children with special health care needs, adolescents, and families— is essential for a number of reasons.
Policy and program decision makers and stakeholders must have access to the information and skills need to address current and emerging issues that affect the health and well-being of these populations. As researchers learn more about the effect of early brain development on the development of children and about the childhood antecedents of adult chronic disease and conditions, it becomes even more important that decision-makers have access to solid research and policy analysis. Likewise, stakeholders need training and technical assistance that is evidence-based, tailored to client need, and designed to get results.
Altarum takes a practical, grounded approach to addressing these needs—one that is focused on translating research into practice as it relates to building effective service systems for children, adolescents, and their families. Our extensive experience in child and adolescent health services research, policy analysis, and training and technical assistance includes work with agencies in every state. As a result, we have a national perspective and an appreciation of state-specific issues and circumstances.
We are skilled in planning, facilitating and evaluating private and public sector collaborative efforts that help our clients use their resources wisely and effectively. Infused throughout our approach, is also an understanding of the importance of collaboration among the public and private sectors at the national, state, and local levels needed to strengthen systems of care and to improve health outcomes.
