Shaheen Khan is an accomplished and motivated leader and business regulatory analysis professional with more than 14 years of experience in health and corporate program compliance, performance improvement, and revenue cycle management. She specializes in administrative and regulatory compliance with federal health care and financial policies and programs. These include the recently established Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, Medicare, the U.S. Department of Defense’s TRICARE, and numerous other departmental and agency-specific issuances and financial management regulations.
Ms. Khan leads Altarum Institute’s Policy and Compliance CoP, where she applies her expertise to align client business operations and optimize systems and processes to meet regulatory, contractual, and state or federal requirements. As a Senior Technical Advisor, she routinely provides organizational interpretation and development of policy and procedures; recommends courses of action for and responses to regulatory and legislative initiatives, Congressional inquiries, and agency audits; and provides detailed reviews and evaluations of health care and revenue cycle management policies. Ms. Khan also regularly develops and presents trainings on federal and department or agency health care laws, policies, and compliance program requirements. In addition, she is highly adept in quality management, control, and standardization and provides technical leadership in the planning, design, execution, testing, and development of high-quality procedures relating to federal health programs.
Before joining Altarum in 2010, Ms. Khan was a practicing lawyer who held positions with the Executive Office of the President’s Council on Environmental Quality and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Norfolk Division.
Ms. Khan holds a juris doctor degree from the University of Richmond’s School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Virginia. She is a Certified Project Management Professional through the Project Management Institute, is certified in Competency Management Framework Development, and is a current Member of the Virginia State and District of Columbia Bar Associations, the Virginia State Bar Health Law and Military Law Sections, and the Virginia Bar Association’s Health Law Section.
