Thomas Wilkinson PortraitThomas Wilkinson is Senior Survey Methodologist for Altarum Institute. He has extensive experience working with clients in U.S. and state governments, foundations, research organizations, universities, and commercial enterprises.

Mr. Wilkinson provides leadership in business development, project management, survey methodology and field operations, data standards and documentation, and quality assurance.

 

 

Expertise

Mr. Wilkinson has more than 35 years of experience in survey methodology and survey data collection operations, with a special focus on health services research and patient experience measurement and reporting systems. He has significant expertise in qualitative research methods, instrument and sample design, large-scale computer-assisted telephone interviewing, Web and mailed survey operations, survey quality assurance, and data management and sophisticated reporting systems. Mr. Wilkinson has led research projects contributing to the development of the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey systems and related patient satisfaction surveys, as well as numerous studies in the areas of behavioral health, substance abuse, nutrition, health policy, pharmacoeconomics, and epidemiology. He is also a skilled software developer and an expert SAS programmer.

Mr. Wilkinson has collaborated in numerous survey projects with researchers from such organizations as Harvard Medical School, the U.S. Department of Defense Military Health System, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Committee for Quality Assurance, Picker Institute, the RAND Corporation, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Public Health Institute, the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research (ISR), and several units of National Institutes of Health.

Prior Experience

Before joining Altarum, Mr. Wilkinson was Vice President for Survey Research at IMPAQ International, where he also managed IMPAQ’s west coast regional operations. Previously, he was employed by ISR, SPSS Inc., and the College of American Pathologists. Additionally, he founded and managed DataStat, Inc., a leading survey research organization specializing in health services and public policy research.

Education

Mr. Wilkinson has an MPH from the University of Michigan School of Public Health and has completed all coursework for a PhD in health policy.
