As president for KAI Research, Inc., an Altarum company, Katherine A. Dimeo leads a contract research organization serving multiple clients at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Defense (DoD), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as a wide range of private nonprofit and for-profit life sciences organizations and biopharmaceutical and medical device companies. She leads strategic planning and annual budgeting, business development and sales, program excellence and client satisfaction, technology and thought leadership, talent and leadership development, employee performance management, and full operating performance for all clinical research operations.
Before joining Altarum and KAI Research, Ms. Dimeo worked at Metabiota, Inc. as director of business development, leading all new company program and business development, contract management, and facilitation of program initiation and implementation. She led business development and strategic collaborations to support multiple global infectious disease research and surveillance programs serving U.S. government entities, including the DoD, the Department of State, the Department of Homeland Security, NIH, and the U.S. Agency for International Development. These programs supported global infectious diseases services objectives, including integrated lab, research, and program support; development and implementation of global field-based health surveillance; human, wildlife, and domestic animal sample collection and management; pathogen discovery, disease detection, and threat characterization; endemic and epidemic outbreak investigation and support; behavioral research and intervention programs; global scientific engagement and international health diplomacy infrastructure, training and capacity development; and establishment of partnerships with government, military, and public health systems academic institutions, nongovernmental organizations, and private industry, to meet research, surveillance, or other scientific needs.
Before joining Metabiota, Ms. Dimeo served as senior program manager for the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, managing a portfolio of programs including the DoD Armed Forces Health Surveillance Center, Global Emerging Infectious Surveillance and Response Systems, the U.S. Army Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy research program, and numerous other U.S. government biomedical research activities. She also conducted clinical and health research at Penn State University and the University of Pittsburgh, concentrating on bio-behavioral and neuropsychology research activities.
Prior to pursuing biomedical research program management and business development in support of the U.S. government, Ms. Dimeo spent nearly 15 years leading information services and technology strategic planning, development, and management for several hospitals, health systems, and private companies, including MedStar Health, Washington Hospital Center, Susquehanna Health System, and Continental Medical Systems.
Ms. Dimeo holds a master of science degree in biotechnology, with a concentration in biosecurity and biodefense; a bachelor of philosophy degree from the University Honors College at the University of Pittsburgh, with a dual major in history and philosophy of science and psychology; a minor in writing; and a certificate in conceptual foundations of medicine (medical ethics). She is Project Management Professional certified.
