Every September, the team at Altarum’s Behavioral Health Technical Assistance Center participates in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration-sponsored Recovery Month. This year’s theme, Join the Voices for Recovery: Visible, Vocal, Valuable!, embodies our hopes for the future of the recovery movement and for those individuals who are in recovery. It is our fervent desire that

  • Everyone knows that recovery is possible and regards it as something to be celebrated,
  • Those in recovery feel empowered to speak out about their journeys so that others may hear and find inspiration in their stories, and
  • All people come to understand the value of recovery for both individuals and for our society.

During the month of September, Altarum will be planning events with staff to discuss, educate, and celebrate recovery. Check this page throughout the month as we add more information about recovery. Recovery is something to celebrate, not only during September but every day of the year!

Join Altarum and more than 600 other organizations, as well as celebrities, elected officials, and ordinary people, to talk about addiction and recovery at the UNITE to Face Addiction Rally, located on the National Mall in Washington, DC, on October 4.

End the silence with us and stand up for the nearly 23 million people in recovery. Go to http://www.facingaddiction.org for more details.

Altarum is honored to share these messages of hope with the community.

We asked experts in the recovery community: What should people know about the addiction and recovery movement?

At its roundtable discussion on the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act, Altarum interviewed experts—people who worked with or were in long-term recovery—and asked them about recovery and themselves.

Recovery is Possible

Altarum believes very strongly in the power of recovery to help people and change lives. In 2013, we wanted to express what recovery meant to us:

  • Hope for a better life,
  • Bringing the family together, and
  • A bright future!

What does recovery mean to you? Share it with us on Twitter @Altarum, or post it in the comments above!
