Altarum has been developing registries and public health systems for state, federal, and private organizations for more than 20 years. Beyond building data systems, our teams are experts at connecting public and private data to further population health management and interoperability goals. Some of our past and current projects, including our nationwide depression registry and birth defect implementation guide, are fast becoming the national standard for data capture and reporting.
From surveillance and disease case management to data exchange and mobile applications, our team is adept at health information integration and connectivity within the health market. With an emphasis on integration, we are developing implementation guides, interfaces, and data quality validation tools for electronic health records (EHRs) and health systems to communicate with each other and with state-based systems. This work is changing the way real time health data is shared and analyzed to inform and predict infectious diseases, chronic conditions, and management of population health.
Registries and Disease Surveillance
Population health management and surveillance is an essential part of promoting and protecting the nation’s health. By tracking cases of illness and disease, surveillance teams can take important steps to prevent, control, and treat a wide range of health conditions. We offer expertise in the design and development of registries and public health surveillance systems streamlining the electronic tracking of infectious, chronic, and behavioral health conditions and disease.
The Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS) is the heart of the Medicaid program. The MMIS processes fee-for-service (FFS) claims, managed care capitation payments, and managed care encounters. It also provides data that measures operational health and supports federal and state reporting requirements. As Medicaid programs have grown and become more complex and federal regulations more rigorous, the MMIS has been required to be more sophisticated and flexible. We provide expertise to ensure the MMIS will support day-to-day operations and meets federal compliance requirements.
Health Data Interoperability
Electronic health systems, such as EHRs and population health management registries, provide a means to capture health information electronically. However, health care providers and public health agencies still share important patient information by faxing or mailing paper forms. These methods are time-consuming and lead to delays, mistakes, and missing data in patient health records. We have deep experience in transforming health information into formats all electronic health systems can securely share and process.
