Understanding how to use AI in academic publishing is increasingly important for nutrition educators, who often serve as both authors and peer reviewers. As AI tools become more common in writing and reviewing, educators need clear guidance on ethical use and journal policies. Engaging with this topic supports professional integrity, enhances scholarly communication, and helps educators stay current in a rapidly evolving research environment.

Altarum’s Becca Hagedorn-Hatfield will be a featured speaker in the online webinar, Smart Publishing: Using AI Ethically as an Author and Reviewer, which will provide an overview of Elsevier and the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior (JNEB)'s AI policies and share key findings from a recent readership survey on awareness of the policies and perspectives on appropriate AI use. It will also explore practical, policy-aligned ways that authors and peer reviewers can ethically incorporate AI tools into their scholarly work.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Attendees will learn the ethical concerns related to AI use in publishing
  2. Attendees will understand how to interpret journal AI policies and apply them to their work
  3. Attendees will explore AI tools for publishing and reviewing and how to use them ethically
