In order to gain a better understanding of gaps and barriers to behavioral health treatment, the Michigan Health Endowment Fund contracted with Altarum to study access across Michigan. 

More than 650,000 Michiganders with a mental illness and over 500,000 with a substance use disorder fail to receive any treatment for their conditions, according to a new study by Altarum, which examined access to behavioral health services in Michigan by payer type.

Funded by the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, the new report uses 2019 data to provide a picture of behavioral health access in Michigan just prior to the pandemic.

With our deep expertise in behavioral health and in training and technical assistance, Altarum will support substance use disorder providers as part of the state’s Recovery Incentives Pilot.

Altarum is expanding the reach of the Bureau of Justice Assistance's (BJA) Peer Recovery Support Services (PRSS) Training and Technical Assistance Center, a critical resource to criminal justice and social services organizations across the nation.
