New Report on Barriers to Health Care for Women Veterans

November 15, 2024

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recently released the 2024 report on the "Study of Barriers for Women Veterans to VA Health Care." This comprehensive study highlights the challenges women Veterans encounter in accessing health care services and underscores the critical barriers that prevent them from receiving care. The results inform decisionmakers how women interact with the current VA system and identify actionable opportunities for improvement.

Sponsored by the VA’s Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Office of Women’s Health, the 2024 report builds on the foundation of the previous study, offering new insights and recommendations. The 2024 report provides an improved understanding of the barriers women Veterans face accessing VA care, the comprehensiveness of care, and progress made in reducing barriers to VA healthcare for women Veterans. The data collected allows the VA to plan and provide better health care for women Veterans and to support reports to Congress about the status of women Veterans’ health care.

In collaboration with Trilogy Federal, the Altarum team managed the survey life cycle. This included assembling the sample, designing the survey instrument, planning and oversight of survey fielding, analyzing and interpreting the data, and presenting the findings in the final report. Altarum has a long history with military health and an ongoing commitment to supporting the quality improvement of military and Veterans’ health.
