John Christensen has 26 years of experience as Project Leader and led more than 15 programs for Federal, State, and commercial clients. In his current role, John contributes to Altarum projects and growth through a wide-ranging skill set that includes project management, technical writing, human factors design, visual depiction of processes and tasks, proposal development, objective analysis, and knowledge of health information technology in health care. He has also served as a Senior Technical Writer for 26 years and developed user guides, online help systems, and training materials for more than 25 software applications, including the Michigan Syndromic Surveillance System, Michigan Disease Surveillance System, and Michigan Care Improvement Registry. He is experienced in managing and contributing to proposal efforts and grant applications for Federal and State agencies and is trained in Shipley proposal processes and tools.
Since 2012, John has been Project Leader and Technical POC for the Michigan Syndromic Surveillance System (MSSS)—a real-time surveillance system that tracks the chief presenting complaints from patients seeking care in Michigan, allowing public health officials and providers to monitor trends and investigate unusual increases in symptom presentations. In his role, he leads the Altarum project team that supports submitter message assessment and facility onboarding, maintains and enhances the MSSS application, processes and delivers Michigan data to the CDC BioSense system, and works with State of Michigan to meet surveillance, reporting, and security needs.
John holds a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University.
