Altarum Announces Thomas Ranese as New Board of Trustees Member
Altarum announced today that Thomas Ranese, a marketing executive and LQBTQA+ advocate, has joined Altarum’s Board of Trustees, effective January 1, 2023.
“We are excited to have Thomas lend his extensive marketing and leadership expertise to Altarum and Palladian, our evidence-based communications subsidiary, which partners with government and nonprofit clients driving positive change through accessible health- and science-based communications,” said Michael Monson, Altarum chief executive officer and president. “Thomas’ work across state and city government, and two of the most innovative global tech companies, combined with his marketing expertise, will provide us the critical perspective to engage effectively with the organizations and communities we serve.”
Ranese served as the global chief marketing officer at Uber for three years, where he set the brand narrative and integrated marketing strategy across 20 key markets. At Uber, he led Global Marketing and Social Impact, driving organizational turnaround, repairing the reputation of the company, and fueling growth for the business. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Ranese also oversaw the company’s first-ever global social impact initiative “Move What Matters” which supported communities around the globe and helped revive brand health metrics for the company.
Prior to joining Uber, Ranese held several key marketing leadership roles spanning a decade at Google. He served as the first head of Global Marketing Strategy & Operations; founded the Google Brand Studio, where he led the naming of Alphabet and launched the Google Store. In Ranese’s final role at Google, as global vice president of Hardware Marketing, he was responsible for the launch and merchandising of Google-branded devices including the Pixel phone.
Ranese also has experience working in federal, state, and city governmental organizations. He was the first chief marketing officer for the state of New York where he provided direction and oversight of the I LOVE NY tourism program, the Governor’s Office of Film & TV, and business marketing for the New York State economic development agency. He worked previously with the federal Corporation for National Service and started his career working within the San Francisco Unified School District.
“I believe everyone should have access to affordable, quality healthcare. That’s why I am honored and humbled to join the Altarum board and help state, federal, and community public health organizations ensure the most vulnerable populations achieve better health outcomes,” said Ranese. “Altarum has decades of proven experience—developing technological innovations, advanced analytics, workforce training and continuing education, and applied research—to achieve those goals.”
